A longtime Kentucky basketball writer is leaving the journalism industry.
Kyle Tucker, who had been covering Kentucky basketball for The Athletic since 2018 and had been in the sports journalism industry for 21 years, called it a career on Friday morning.
He had been covering Kentucky basketball for the last 13 years.
“After 21 years as a sportswriter, the last 13 covering Kentucky, I’m hanging up my press pass. Toughest decision of my life, but an opportunity outside journalism was too good to pass up. What a ride! So grateful for all who trusted me to tell their story and all who read them,” Tucker tweeted.
Tucker covered the John Calipari era of Kentucky basketball before the latter left for Arkansas following the 2023-24 season. His coverage was always objective and was never afraid to tell it how it was.
Before covering Kentucky basketball, he covered Virginia Tech football for The Virginian-Pilot. He got to cover two really good schools during his long journalism career.
He hasn’t shared what’s next for his career but we wish him the very best in that new endeavor.
