Mark Pope has brought one of his top assistant coaches to Kentucky.
He’s bringing on former BYU assistant Cody Fueger to the school, per Matt Jones.
Pope and Fueger coached together for five seasons and will be together for at least a sixth season when the 2024-25 season kicks off later this year. They helped BYU finish above .500 in all five seasons and also led the school to the NCAA Tournament twice.
Fueger graduated from Utah in 2002 and it’s where he got his start in coaching. He then left for Louisiana Tech before making his way to BYU.
Pope was hired to replace John Calipari after the latter left for Arkansas’ men’s basketball program.
He takes over a program that lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and hasn’t made a Sweet 16 since the 2018-19 season. Kentucky has also lost in the first round twice in the last three years.
Pope finished his BYU tenure with a 110-52 record. Before he was at BYU, he coached at Utah Valley for four seasons, finishing with a 77-56 overall record.
