What are we even doing.
The Kentucky Wildcats are coming off an embarrassing performance vs. the Vanderbilt Commodores, in which the offense could only muster up 13 points vs. one of the SEC’s worst defenses.
It may have helped if Kentucky had given Jamarion Wilcox more touches, as he continues to be the Cats’ most explosive running back and one that could really help this offense with more touches.
But for whatever reason, Wilcox continues to see limited touches. He had just three carries vs. the Dores but managed to go for 35 yards on them for a game-high 11.7 yards per carry while not catching a single pass.
So, why isn’t Wilcox playing more?
During his Monday press conference, Mark Stoops shared an eye-raising quote on why the redshirt freshman doesn’t see more snaps: Wilcox needs to learn to tie his shoes.
Stoops on what is preventing Jamarion Wilcox from playing more: “Here’s a thing, tie your shoes … He doesn’t tie his shoes, so he runs it, but his shoe falls off, so he’s got to come out. That would help.”

Whew. Things are not great when your head coach throws a player under the bus like that.
It’s pretty clear Stoops was saying that Wilcox needs to be more mature with how he carries himself, which is probably what Stoops should have said. The quote he actually gave really throws Wilcox under the bus in a completely unnecessary way.
