Another bumpy week for the Wildcats.
For the second consecutive week, the Kentucky Wildcats split their two Southeastern Conference games.
The No. 15 Wildcats pulled off what was (given the circumstances) the unthinkable by beating No. 5 Tennessee at Rupp Arena on Tuesday night.
They were missing Jaxson Robinson and Kerr Kriisa for the entire game, and with nine minutes left, they lost Lamont Butler. Due to clutch shooting and execution down the stretch, Kentucky managed to pull out the win and complete their season sweep of Tennessee.
On Saturday, though, Kentucky was not able to keep that trend going when they lost at unranked Texas.
The Wildcats were without Butler, Kriisa, and Robinson, but after their win over Tennessee, one would have thought Saturday’s game against a team near the bottom of the SEC standings wouldn’t be that big of an issue.
However, Kentucky collapsed in the final minutes and lost their lead to let Texas escape with the win.
It’s another smear on Kentucky’s SEC schedule, as four of their six losses have come to unranked opponents.
As of this morning, Kentucky has dropped from No. 15 to No. 17 in the NET rankings and dropped from No. 16 to No. 22 in the DRatings.
EvanMiya also has Kentucky trending downward, currently ranking them at No. 23, while Haslametrics is holding Kentucky at No. 21.
