Huge game this Saturday.
Kentucky football is headed to Oxford this weekend for a matchup with No. 6 Ole Miss.
The Wildcats are coming off of a 41-6 victory over Ohio — their biggest win of the season.
While Kentucky’s wins against Southern Miss and Ohio don’t necessarily mean much on their resume that also includes losses to South Carolina and Georgia, they’ve played pretty good football aside from the four quarters against SC a few weeks ago.
They were lights out in the season-opener against Southern Miss that was eventually called when the Wildcats were up 31-0 in a lightning storm. Kentucky played Georgia down to the wire a couple of weeks ago and this past weekend simply took care of business vs. Ohio.
While Georgia may very well be the best team in college football, this weekend’s road matchup with the 4-0 Rebels is far from ideal. Ole Miss boasts one of the best scoring offenses in the country and allowed a total of 22 points across four games this season.
Though their level of competition has been suspect, they’ve done exactly what they’ve been expected to do — and then some — over their first four games.
According to ESPN Bet, the Wildcats opened up as 17-point underdogs with ESPN’s Football Power Index giving Kentucky just a 9.5% chance to pull off the upset on the road.
Head coach Mark Stoops and his team have the offensive weapons to somewhat level the playing field, but inconsistency at quarterback and across the offensive line could very well be the issue come Saturday. And if Kentucky’s offense can’t stay on the field to give their defense a breather from time to time, this game could spin out of control — fast.
Saturday’s game is scheduled for Noon ET with television coverage on ABC.
