The change will add more scholarships for multiple sports.
Some big news for college athletics broke today, as it appears changes are coming for scholarship limits.
According to a report by Ross Dellenger of Yahoo! Sports, the NCAA and league commissioners have finalized roster limits which will add available scholarships to several high profile sports. Included in the change is Football now going to 105 scholarships, men’s and women’s basketball going to 15, baseball to 34, softball to 25, and volleyball to 18 scholarships per roster. Other sports will also see an increase to limits as well.
On Tuesday, commissioners finalized roster limits that’ll be filed Friday in House settlement, sources tell @YahooSports:
football 105
M/W basketball 15
baseball 34
softball 25
volleyball 18Schools can offer scholarships to full rosters starting 2025-26https://t.co/8L7dfTQtZj

According to Dellenger’s report these changes would take place in the 2025-26 season.
Dellenger also had this to say about the change;
“The new roster figures are expected to be included in the long-form agreement in the landmark settlement of three antitrust cases, including the House v. NCAA lawsuit. The agreement is expected to be filed Friday with details on the distribution of the $2.77 billion in back pay to former athletes as well as particulars of the new revenue-sharing model permitting schools to distribute upwards of $20-plus million annually.”
In such a wild era of college sports that includes the introduction of NIL and the transfer portal, this scholarship increase also now allows for more athletes to play sports at the collegiate level. Especially in football and baseball who will see the biggest increase in scholarship limits next season.
For the Kentucky Wildcats, they have continued to have success across all sports over the last few seasons, and this increase is only going to help bolster the rosters for seasons to come.
