One analyst thinks Lendeborg could make a decision this week.
If Indianapolis is a house of horrors for Kentucky, then Chicago could be a Survivor Sanctuary for the Wildcats. Good things happen in the Survivor Sanctuary, and good things could come out of a Mark Pope meeting with highly-touted Yaxel Lendeborg.
According to KSR’s Jacob Polacheck, Lendeborg entered the transfer portal on Monday and quickly had a meeting with Pope. Kentucky appears to be wasting little time in meeting with a player who could be a massive commit for the Wildcats. He has one season of eligibility remaining.
Lendeborg averaged 17.7 points, 11.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.8 blocks, and 1.7 steals across 33.6 minutes per game in 37 contests for UAB last season. He shot 52.2% from the field overall, 35.7 percent from 3-point range, and 75.7% from the free-throw line.
Elsewhere, On3’s Joe Tipton reports that Kentucky is among the top contenders for Lendeborg. Tipton also wrote, “I wouldn’t be surprised to see Yaxel pick a college by this weekend,” which would seem to be a good thing for the Wildcats since they’ve already met with him in person.
It is worth pointing out that Yendeborg will go through the NBA Draft process, so even if he commits to a school soon, there may not be a final decision made on where he’ll be next season until May.
Saying this, if someone like Kentucky is willing to take a commitment from him now, you’d think they feel good about him playing college basketball next season.
This is now a very intriguing recruitment to follow for the Wildcats.
