Yet another Kentucky Wildcat is reportedly on his way out the door.
According to Travis Branham of 247Sports, former 5-star recruit and McDonald’s All American D.J. Wagner will enter the transfer portal. The Camden, New Jersey native averaged 9.9 points and 3.3 assists per game in 2023.
As the national basketball analyst notes: “Despite [John] Calipari’s move to Arkansas, Wagner’s options will be completely open upon hitting the portal market and [he] also plans to meet with new Kentucky head coach Mark Pope.”
D.J. is the son of former NBA player DaJuan Wagner whose career ended due to unfortunate health complications.
DaJuan played for Coach Cal at the University of Memphis and is widely considered to be the best basketball player to ever come out of Jersey.
Wagner left high school the No. 6 prospect in last year’s cycle (his dad was the No. 6 pick in the NBA Draft) and had a highly-acclaimed high school career of his own.
The 6-foot-4 guard will easily be one of the top players available in the spring transfer window.
Prior to his commitment to UK, Wagner took an official visit to Memphis and showed interest in attending Louisville, Syracuse, Temple, Villanova and Penn State.
