As a proud Arkansas alum, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones must have been over the moon when he learned that John Calipari would be coaching his alma mater’s college hoops team. He’s now doing what he can to make life as good for Calipari and his team as possible.
In a recent post on Discord, Trilly Donovan of BurnerBall.com revealed that Jones is working as a booster and offering “double” what Kentucky commits were being offered in NIL money to flip their commitments and go to Fayetteville instead.
“Per @trillydonovan’s Discord: Jerry Jones (Arkansas booster) is willing to pay freshmen twice as much as they would get at Kentucky. What a wild era of college basketball,” Eli Hershkovich of Catena Media wrote on X.
Jones has always shown a willingness to spend big money in order to win championships. Though some have taken to X to point out that he hasn’t done that with his Cowboys this year.
“Jerry Jones spending more on college basketball free agents than free agents for the Cowboys (allegedly),” one user wrote.
Others have pointed out that Jones’ strategy has not worked in decades as demonstrated by his team’s inability to return to the NFC Championship Game in that span.
“Buying players sounds great, but it won’t buy a national championship. Might not even buy you past the 1st round of the tournament. Trust me, we would know,” a Cowboys fan pointed out.
“Because in fairness, when you’re down on your luck in the postseason, you turn to the owner of a franchise that hasn’t won more than one playoff game in a single postseason since 1995,” a third joked.
Will Jones’ strategy work for the Razorbacks?
