Kentucky’s D.J. Wagner could soon find himself playing for his former coach in the SEC, according to reports.
Per CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein, Wagner is scheduled to visit John Calipari and the Arkansas Razorbacks this weekend after entering the transfer portal last month.
Wagner, a former top-five recruit in the 2023 class, averaged 9.9 points, 3.3 assists and 1.9 rebounds per game this past season.
Despite some inconsistent offensive performances with the Cats, the son of former NBA player DaJuan Wagner showed incredible flashes during his first year in Lexington.
The 6-foot-4 guard started his freshman campaign with a pair of 20-point explosions in the ACC/SEC Challenge against Saint Joseph’s and Marshall. However, he never hit that mark again in any of UK’s remaining games.
Still though, landing Wagner in Fayetteville would be a huge get for Coach Cal and Pig Sooie. Coming out of high school many projected that the New Jersey native would be an eventual first-round pick in the NBA.
Calipari also coached Wagner’s dad during his time at Memphis, so it’s very possible that D.J. decides to follow the three-time Naismith Coach of the Year to the Razorbacks.
When Wagner was entering college, he was in the middle of an intense recruiting battle between Kentucky and Louisville.
