According to multiple reports, Richard Pitino has emerged as the top target for the Louisville head coaching job.
Pitino, of course, is the son of former Louisville Rick Pitino. The younger Pitino just led New Mexico to a 26-10 record and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. He has previous coaching experience at FIU and Minnesota.
Other potential targets at this time are Pat Kelsey and Shaheen Holloway.
Indiana State head coach Josh Schertz is “no longer an option” according to a report by Adam Zagoria.

Richard Pitino, 41, would be a somewhat surprising choice. In 12 years at FIU, Minnesota and New Mexico, he has just three NCAA Tournament appearances, although his New Mexico team finished 26-10 this year and made the Big Dance. He is 221-178 (.554) for his career.
Rick Pitino was fired by Louisville in the fall of 2017 and later sued the university, seeking the $38.7 million remaining on his contract. In 2019, the two sides “mutually agreed to dismiss their legal claims against each other, designate his departure as a resignation, and move forward.”
Kelsey, 48, has four NCAA appearances in 12 seasons at Winthrop and Charleston. His Charleston team went 27-8 this season, winning the CAA conference tournament and making the NCAA Tournament.
