Several teams are on the cusp of bowl eligibility.
Greetings, BBN!
Not a super crazy Saturday last week but still a consequential one. The two Texas schools have carved out paths to the SEC title game, with A&M only needing road wins at South Carolina and Auburn to reach 7-0 and the Longhorns only needing to edge Florida, Arkansas, and Kentucky to face off against the Aggies at 6-1 on Rivalry Week.
Put another way, if they win out until that finale, they might have a chance to rematch a week later in Atlanta. Texas might need some help from Georgia, though. The Bulldogs have Ole Miss and Tennessee left on the schedule, but they still have only one league loss.
Here are the rest of the SEC standings entering Week 10:
SEC Standings Week 10
Notes:
- Alabama seemed pretty mad about where their season and the perception of the program was at last Saturday. Facing #21 and 6-1 Missouri in front of their home crowd, they stomped them 34-0. That’s likely the end of Mizzou’s CFP campaign.
- Vanderbilt continues to amaze, and teams are starting to get nervous before coming to Nashville. The Commodores went toe-to-toe with Texas and gave them all they could handle in a 27-24 loss that gave them even more validity, even though it was still a loss.
- Arkansas entered the season with a coach very much on the hot seat, but after a blowout road win over Mississippi State, they are just one buy-game win over Louisiana Tech on November 23rd from a bowl. Opportunities for a 7th win dot the backstretch of the schedule as well.
- Oklahoma needs one more SEC win to reach a bowl in its first SEC season. The best chance they have is likely at Missouri in two weeks.
- Vanderbilt might be enjoying a lot of limelight and attention right now, but they aren’t safe yet. They face Auburn on the road this Saturday, and host South Carolina the week after, which should be winnable, but if they drop them both, LSU and Tennessee might send this whole show crashing down to 5-7.
