Half the league has now played at least one conference game.
Greetings, BBN!
Half the SEC has now played at least one conference game. South Carolina fell just short of a 2-0 league start after LSU’s 17-point comeback. Texas A&M notched a win on the road against the struggling Florida Gators, and Georgia survived a massive upset scare.
The #1 Bulldogs trailed 9-6 heading into the 4th quarter and eked it out on the road 13-12. It was the first time since the 2020 season that a team not named Alabama or Ohio State played Georgia and came within three points.
Was it Texas? Tennessee? Missouri? Nope. It was Kentucky—the same Kentucky team that imploded hosting South Carolina just seven days prior.
But no matter how close, a win is still a win and a loss is still a loss, and Georgia’s 1-0 and the Cats are 0-2 in the Southeastern Conference.
Here’s the full standings breakdown:
SEC Standings Week 4:
Notes:
- Ole Miss has now outscored its opponents 168-9 in three games.
- Mississippi State followed up its close road loss to Arizona State with an absolute meltdown at home against Toledo, falling 41-17. Their schedule has five current AP top-five teams on it, and four of those are road games. They are highly likely to be the first SEC team to ever finish 16th in the league standings.
- Tennessee plays at Oklahoma this weekend in what will be the most high-profile league showdown of the year so far. The Vols have scored 191 points in their three games to date.
- Kentucky is 7-7 in field goals through three games this season.
- Arkansas fell behind UAB 17-3 but came back to win by ten in a must-win game following their 2OT loss at Oklahoma State. A lot hinges on their game at Auburn this weekend.
- Florida has little hope of winning the SEC or a bowl this season, but one of their biggest chances comes this Saturday at Mississippi State. Four of their remaining league games are against top-5 teams, but this one and home games with Kentucky and LSU offer some hope.
