Kentucky is no longer in 16th place!
Greetings, BBN!
Kentucky is no longer in last place! The Wildcats are 1-2 with a College Football Playoff-landscape altering mega-upset of Ole Miss on their own turf that has propelled them from 16th to 12th and relegated the Rebels to the 0-1 club.
The win put a significant dent in Ole Miss’s campaigns for the SEC championship game and the CFP, but they still have the entire rest of the SEC slate to make up for it. Their margin of error from now on, though, will be razor-thin.
Georgia also suffered a blow as Alabama held on for a thrilling 41-34 victory in Tuscaloosa last Saturday. This victory will likely keep the Tide above the Bulldogs in the standings for the rest of the season. The key to recovering from the loss and getting back on track for Atlanta is to win at Texas on October 19th.
Alabama, Texas, Tennessee, and others, on the other hand, are unbeaten in the league and just have to keep it that way. Life couldn’t be much better than it is for the Tide and Longhorns right now. Here’s the full standings breakdown entering Week 6:
SEC Standings Week 6
Notes:
- Kentucky’s win over Ole Miss was their first road win over the Rebels since 1978 and their highest-ranked road win against any team since 1977 at Penn State.
- Kentucky is 11/11 in field goals this season.
- Texas fans were whooping with delight as Georgia fell to the Tide in Tuscaloosa. The Longhorns will not face the Crimson Tide in the regular season, but can head into their home bout with Georgia knowing the Bulldogs already have one league loss.
- Oklahoma and Texas both won their first games as SEC teams last Saturday. The Sooners came back from an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit to win at Auburn, and Texas took care of business as #1 at home against Mississippi State.
- Alabama not only survived a bout with Georgia, but survived completely blowing a 28-0 lead. With 2:31 left in the game Georgia took a 34-33 lead but only 13 seconds later the Tide went 75 yards for the game-winning score.
