8-7 is so much better than 7-8 when leaving Norman, Oklahoma
Greetings, BBN!
Several teams’ bubbles are starting to get really stretched to the breaking point near the bottom of the standings. Georgia, Texas, and Oklahoma are 5-10, 5-10, and 4-11 in the league, respectively, and have overall records of 17-11, 16-12, and 17-11. Georgia would be even further back if not for their massive upset win over #3 Florida midweek where they stunned the Gators, stormed the court in Athens, and jumped right back into the mix when it looked like they were about to fade out. Texas took a brutal overtime loss to Arkansas, and Oklahoma took an equally brutal loss to Kentucky, or more specifically, to Otega Oweh. The Bulldogs and Longhorns play each other this Saturday, and the Sooners travel to Ole Miss. None can afford to lose.
Here are your SEC standings as of February 28th:
SEC Basketball Standings

Notes:
- Georgia beat Florida by 5, but that does not tell the entire story by a long shot. If they had lost this game in the final minutes, I think the Bulldogs entire season would’ve been cooked, because that would’ve meant they blew a 26-point 1st half lead!
- Alabama, Auburn, and Missouri all scored 100+ points against Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and South Carolina midweek. Those three squads are some of the best offenses in the sport.
- Vanderbilt scored a massive upset in College Station over #12 Texas A&M to get into a much more comfortable part of the bubble. Arkansas also has climbed all the way up to 6-9 and 17-11 to get a leg up on Georgia, Texas, and Oklahoma.
- Auburn is of course significant favorites in their trip to Rupp Arena this Saturday, but it should still be pointed out that the Tigers, even with all their recent success under Bruce Pearl, have not won at Kentucky since 1988. It’s the longest drought for any SEC team inside Rupp. Speaking of Kentucky, they are now tied for the 7-seed with Ole Miss and a full game ahead of Mississippi State. Week-over-week improvement!
