Brea and Kentucky is a perfect fit.
When the Kentucky Wildcats hired head coach Mark Pope earlier this spring, Big Blue Nation had a hint they’d be in for a treat with a revolutionized offense featuring more 3-point shooting as well as ball movement.
Through two games this season, Kentucky is averaging over 100 points per game and is doing exactly those two things — shooting three-pointers and making them 40% of the time and assisting on over 68% of their made baskets overall.
Leading the charge in efficiency is shooting guard Koby Brea, averaging 19 points in the team’s wins over Wright State and Bucknell.
Not only is Brea scoring well, but he’s doing is by shooting 14-19 from the field and 10-12 from behind the arc. Brea even has four assists through two games without a turnover.
Last season, Brea was top-5 in the country shooting three-pointers, and in Pope’s offense this season, it’s clear he’s going to continue to be a highly productive player.
Brea’s ability to be lethal from long range has opened up space for his teammates and kept the defenses of Wright State and Bucknell honest.
With a matchup against Duke in the State Farm Champions Classic on Tuesday, Brea will look to keep his momentum going against a sizable uptick in competition.
Tip-off for No. 23 Kentucky vs. No. 7 Duke is scheduled for 9 PM ET on ESPN.
