Another loss on the field, but a big recruiting win for Mark Pope
Another Sunday reflecting back on a Kentuck football loss.
Most folks gave Kentucky little to no chance going into last night’s matchup at Neyland Stadium against the Tennessee Volunteers, so it was a bit surprising to see Kentucky hold a 10-7 lead at halftime.
However, what wasn’t surprising was another week of second-half struggles. Tennessee was able to take advantage of a pair of turnovers to create short-field situations that turned into touchdowns.
It’s another week of frustrations for Kentucky, who had the chance to pull off a major upset against a top-10 Tennessee team in Knoxville and give fans a desperately needed shot of optimism in a season that has been lacking in that department.
Instead, the Cats fall to 3-6 on the season and now a 4-8 mark to end the season looks even more likely with difficult matchups against Texas and Louisville still on the schedule.
Where the momentum seems to be right now is with Mark Pope and the Kentucky Basketball program. Pope picked up a big win off-the-court by landing the commitment of 4-star point guard Acaden Lewis, who is viewed as a top 30 or top 40 prospect by the major recruiting services.
Lewis will join Jasper Johnson in the 2025 class to create a dynamic backcourt for the Wildcats with his mix of scoring and playmaking ability.
One of the big questions when Pope took the Kentucky job was his ability to recruit. Now, with three top-50 commitments and Kentucky seemingly in a good spot for Caleb Wilson, Pope is easing some of the doubts on that issue.
Tweet of the Day
Brad White on Kentucky’s defense despite the loss: “I can’t be more proud of the way these dudes fought today. I thought the last couple of weeks was not up to our standard… They scrapped (tonight). They fought.”

Not really room for moral victories, but it was good to see the defense not give up.
