Kentucky has been in contact with a couple of the top 10 guys
The wheels of the transfer portal continue to turn, and Kentucky continues to cast a wide net, at least taking a glance at the plethora of options.
247 Sports recently released a list of the top 10 available transfers in the country, and in true transfer portal fashion, it wasn’t too long after that list came out that a couple of the guys came off the board.
UCF’s Keyshawn Hall is a guy Kentucky reportedly looked into, but Hall —ranked #5 on the list— announced he will be headed to Auburn next season.
And right behind him at #6, Tucker DeVries, made the decision that everybody knew was already made by following his father to Indiana.
Looking at the remainder of this list, Kentucky has seemed to make the top prospect on this list—UAB’s Yaxel Lendeborg—one of its top targets.
Lendeborg was a walking double-double at UAB while also being a solid passer and defender. He checks all the boxes for being a great fit at Kentucky if they can seal the deal on this recruitment.
Kentucky has also been involved with #4 Silas Demary Jr. from Georgia, but UCONN has now become the favorite in that recruitment, and it’d be surprising if he landed somewhere other than with Danny Hurley next season.
The Cats have also been in contact with #10 Rodney Rice from Maryland, although it’s unclear how high of a priority he is for Kentucky. We’ve seen this staff move in silence with some guys before, so maybe it’s one of those situations or maybe Kentucky just reached out to gauge interest and dollar figures.
It’s important to note, too, that transfer ratings aren’t an exact science. Amari Williams was the 71st-ranked transfer, according to On3. Milos Uzan, who is one of the key pieces on the Houston Final Four team, wasn’t even in the top 150. Otega Oweh was barely in the top 200.
It’s more about finding the right fit than anything, as we’ve learned. However, landing a guy like Yaxel Lendeborg from UAB would be a massive get for Kentucky.
