The talented left tackle is reportedly trending toward Kentucky
Kentucky is reportedly trending for one of the top offensive tackles in the transfer portal.
On3 is reporting Kentucky is trending for New Mexico State tackle Shiyazh Pete.
A source tells On3 that Kentucky, which previously hosted Pete on a visit, is trending to land one of the top offensive tackles available. He was in Lexington earlier this month, and reviews were strong coming out of the trip. He also visited Vanderbilt, with his preexisting relationship with former NMSU head coach Jerry Kill a tie to the Commodores.
Michigan and Nebraska were considered frontrunners in this recruitment, but it sounds like Kentucky has made a push to the top of the list.
Pete would be a valuable addition to this Kentucky team looking to address offensive line issues that have plagued the team the last couple seasons. The Cats have brought in some solid pieces on the offensive line in the transfer portal, but still needed a tackle, and Pete could fill that role.
He’s an experienced starter who was anAll-Conference USA first-team selection in 2023, and played well this past season after returning from an injury that forced him to miss the first half of the season.
This recruitment is obviously not over, and there is the possibility Pete could return to New Mexico State, but it sounds like Kentucky is doing all it can in an attempt to land one of the top offensive tackles in the portal.
