A very nice pickup for the Cats!
Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats have done it again, this time landing a commitment from Denzel Aberdeen, who just won a national championship with the Florida Gators.
The Orlando native just wrapped up his third season of college basketball, all with the Gators, and will now play out his final year in Lexington. The hope is that he’ll be another capable shooter from deep while also providing Kentucky with an extra option at point guard. He’s also viewed as a strong defender who will give the Cats a much-needed boost in that regard.
With Aberdeen now in the fold, Kentucky technically has all 13 scholarships accounted for, though that’s if Otega Oweh withdraws from the NBA Draft and there’s no surprise transfer or decommitment.
Pope and his staff have another promising roster on their hands.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the latest transfer portal addition for Kentucky basketball.

Denzel Aberdeen is a lockdown defender who can turn into a double-digit scorer in Mark Pope’s system. Really like the get for Kentucky. A rising senior who brings high-level winning experience and toughness to Lexington.

Denzel Aberdeen averaged 14.4 points in five SEC starts for Florida, shooting 41.4% from 3 on 29 attempts with a 3.3 assist-to-turnover ratio. pic.twitter.com/IBwuE2D2le

Denzel Aberdeen: Another VERY nice addition for Kentucky.
Clear Mark Pope wanted to upgrade size + athleticism from his first roster.
A Top 6 of Jaland Lowe, Aberdeen, Otega Oweh, Mo Dioubate, Jayden Quaintance + Brandon Garrison is about as athletic and TOUGH as they come pic.twitter.com/Ga65kwqBU4

Denzel Aberdeen hits the transfer portal with a championship pedigree. There are also some good analytical categories coming off the bench.
• 90% percentile spot up shooting, 76th catch & shoot, 74th 3-pt shooting
• 83rd defensive impact https://t.co/m91ShGLkoo— David Sisk (@CoachDavidSisk) April 21, 2025

Was told at the beginning of the offseason that Mark Pope would have “whatever he needed” in terms of NIL to compete at the highest level in the transfer portal.
I’d say that was accurate.

Another big addition for Mark Pope and Kentucky as Denzel Aberdeen brings more athleticism and versatility to the backcourt.
Wildcats have a Final Four caliber roster. A deeper and more talented squad in Year 2 for Pope. https://t.co/BDucugVDOD

Aberdeen is the perfect addition because he can play 1 or 2
After the Lewis drop, you needed shooting and someone that can play PG when needed!
Let’s ride!
