A decent portion of John Calipari’s move from Kentucky to Arkansas was reportedly financed by his friend John Tyson, who just so happens to be the heir to Tyson Foods.
When that news came out, the media started questioning the future of college basketball. Would boosters just dictate every coach and player’s decision?
Some people, especially those residing in Kentucky, heavily criticized Tyson for playing such a prominent role in Calipari’s departure.
Tyson Foods responded to this criticism by trolling some of the biggest names that work for Kentucky Sports Radio.
It turns out Tyson Foods sent Matt Jones, Ryan Lemond and Billy Rutledge of Kentucky Sports Radio a box of Dino Nuggets and Arkansas shirts in honor of Calipari joining the Razorbacks.
Calipari was officially introduced as the newest head coach of the Arkansas men’s basketball team this Wednesday.
“By all accounts, John Calipari is one of the premier coaches in college basketball,” Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek said. “A national championship coach, a four-time national coach of the year and one of the nation’s top recruiters, Coach Cal has consistently demonstrated his ability to attract outstanding talent and build championship teams within the Southeastern Conference and position his programs among the best in the nation.”
Per reports, Calipari has received a five-year contract from Arkansas that starts at $7 million per season.
Only time will tell if Calipari made the right decision leaving Kentucky behind.
