“One of the best rosters in the country.”
The Kentucky Wildcats were in a brief place of uncertainty when John Calipari announced he was heading to Arkansas. The long-time head coach was the key to adding many of the best recruits in the country.
Unfortunately, that hasn’t often worked lately, especially in a sport where the average age is increasing, and NIL has some of the best talents remaining in college. Now, the Wildcats will look to former big man Mark Pope to lead their program.
Once he was hired, Pope immediately started to build relationships and targeted many of the best players in the transfer portal. He added players from all around the country and even was able to secure some of his former players like Jaxson Robinson as well.
Let’s just say that he’s put the SEC on notice as, per Kentucky Sports Radio’s Jacob Polacheck, Pope certainly has the talent.
“I know he’s (Pope) put together a great roster. He’s got size, he’s got shooting, and he brought in a lot of transfers. He’s put together one of the best rosters in the country. I think he’s going to be right there,” said Vanderbilt head coach Mark Byington.
Pope did put together a special group. He has key defenders who were among the best in their respective conferences last season, and he has a few sharpshooters who could really make an impact as well.
Let’s hope this team comes together as well as Byington thinks it will.
