Andrew Carr didn’t score a ton in his first game at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament (PIT), but he filled up the stat sheet in other ways. Tonight, he’ll have another chance to showcase his skills.
Carr finished with five rebounds, three steals, three blocks, two points, and an assist in Portsmouth Sports Club’s 81-75 victory over Roger Brown’s Restaurant last night. He shot just 1-7 from the floor and 0-3 from three-point range. Carr’s teammate Chucky Hepburn totaled seven points, five assists, four rebounds, and three steals in 29 minutes. Texas Tech guard Chance McMillian led all scorers with 22 points, including four threes.
Tonight at 9 p.m. ET, Carr and his Portsmouth Sports Club teammates will be back in action vs. Jani-King. Familiar names on that roster include former Tennessee forward Igor Milicic Jr. and Alabama guard Chris Youngblood. Last night, Milicic had nine points and Youngblood 14 in Jani-King’s 111-79 win over Mike Duman, Inc. Time to avenge the postseason losses to the Vols and Crimson Tide.
Carr is one of 64 Division I seniors participating in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, which tips off the NBA Draft process. Representatives from every NBA team will be in attendance at the four-day, 12-game event in hopes of finding the next under-the-radar star.
During his lone season at Kentucky, Carr averaged 10.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, shooting 54.4% from the floor and 32.4% from three. He was limited by back problems during the midstretch of the season but rounded into form as the season drew to a close, scoring in double figures in five of Kentucky’s final eight games. In his five-year college career, Carr totaled 1,647 points (including 117 three-pointers) and 827 rebounds across stops at Delaware, Wake Forest, and Kentucky. He is No. 93 on ESPN’s most recent Top 100 NBA Draft prospect rankings. Hopefully, a good showing in Portsmouth will boost that stock and lead to some pro opportunities.
