How is Hamdan doing as Kentucky approaches the midway point of his first season at OC?
Good morning, BBN!
Everyone is riding high after the Kentucky Wildcats pulled off their biggest road upset since 1977 this past Saturday against #6 Ole Miss.
It was a lot of fun to watch, and seeing this team’s fight showed how much of a 180 they have pulled since the South Carolina game.
That said, it is no secret that first-year Offensive Coordinator Bush Hamdan has had an up-and-down start to his tenure.
The Cats finally scored their first touchdown in conference play against Ole Miss, and it took a 4th down and 7 conversion and fumbled QB sweep to score another one.
Personally, I’d give Hamdan a C. The offense has started too slow this year with how much talent is on that side of the ball, and he’s had trouble getting Kentucky in the end zone despite the team having a lot of productive drives.
While that is true, we have seen the team progress fairly nicely over the last couple of games, certainly since South Carolina, where Brock couldn’t breathe in the backfield before getting sacked.
Also, we’ve seen Dane Key develop into a star wide receiver. That should be credited to Hamdan’s development working with him.
There’s a lot to improve, but the next few weeks will tell us if he’s the guy for the job.
