Tyler Betsey, the 6-foot-8 four-star forward from St. Thomas More (CT) and the NY Rens Nike EYBL program, announced his commitment to Cincinnati on Friday.
Ranked the No. 7 power forward in the Class of 2024 by 247Sports.com, Betsey chose the Bearcats over Alabama and UConn. Duke, Creighton, Indiana and Villanova were also among his final seven.
The Windsor, Conn. native most recently visited Cincinnati the weekend of Sept. 23.
“I will be committing to the University of Cincinnati,” he said on 247Sports.com.
“When you’re talking about Tyler Betsey as a basketball player, you’re going to get a versatile player. I can guard 1 through 4, I can really shoot the ball. But really more than that, I can make plays for me getting to the rim and make winning plays [for others]. [I’m someone] that’s going to give their all to the University of Cincinnati.”
Tyler Betsey has a rare combination of size, fluidity, and shooting.
He also gives some flashes of potential to really expand his game on both ends.
High ceiling prospect.

NY Rens coach Oz Cross said Cincinnati is getting a mulit-faceted player.
“Tyler is an elite level shooter,” he told ZAGSBLOG. “At 6’9 what gets unnoticed is his ability to guard guards. He has an extremely high IQ. He’s going to win a lot of games in college. I can’t wait to see him play and develop.”
Said St. Thomas More coach Jere Quinn: “Tyler Betsey is a dedicated and committed worker. He’s an honor student and studies the game. He’s extremely reserved and humble. His mom is a wonderful influence in his life.
“Athletically, he is an elite shooter with length. He has exponentially improved his ability to put the ball on the floor and finish at the rim. He is learning to compete defensively and rebound at a higher level. He is young to the game and possesses unlimited potential. He is a wonderful teammate and individual. He will represent his family, Windsor High and STM with dignity and integrity.”
