It has not been a good first half so far for the eighth-ranked Cincinnati Bearcats, who are on the road today against the Indiana Hoosiers.
In fact, one of the few memorable moments for the Bearcats was a hilarious viral highlight from offensive lineman John Williams, which came on a negative play.
With six minutes left in the first half, Cincinnati had the ball trailing 7-0. On 2nd-and-9 from their own 38, the Bearcats ran a pass play, but quarterback Desmond Ridder was hit and fumbled.
Williams was in perfect position to fall on the ball and at least maintain possession, but for some reason, he tried to pick the ball up with one hand and run with it. That decision did not go well for him.
Indiana would turn that fumble recovery and prime field position into another touchdown for a 14-0 lead. The Hoosiers are aiming for their first win over a top-10 opponent since beating Penn State last year.
Thankfully for the Bearcats, they regained some composure and scored moments ago to cut the deficit to 14-7. If they can settle in, there’s no reason Cincinnati can’t win this game.
They have to take better care of the ball though.
