Basketball is finally, sort of, back.
The preseason intrasquad scrimmage is not even remotely about the result, but more a helpful reminder that college basketball season is around the corner. After watching your inept baseball team crash out of the playoffs, or regular season, you may as well look forward to a group that actually wants to win and make you happy. So, let’s look forward.
I know I said that the result is not the point of this game, but seeing two collections of players from the team put up a final of 59-52 in 24 minutes of play gets me far too excited. White took home the W over Blue behind 13 points from Ryan Conwell. Conwell, McKnight, Green, Maddox and Anderson all hit multiple threes in the scrimmage, and indicated that the team will have more than one shooter to trot out when the season tips off.
The big news here is, well, the bigs. Jerome Hunter and Zach Freemantle both had their best seasons in an X uniform in the ‘22-’23 season, and we’re sorely missed through injury last season. Both were back on the floor at Cintas for the scrimmage, and, no matter how you cut it, that is joyous news.
Outside of the injury to Traore, X currently boasts a healthy roster that took to the floor for the first time since March. As baseball fades, or crashes and burns if you’re a Cleveland fan, it fills me with joy to see X basketball return. Basketball carries the weary through the long, dark winter and gives us something to look forward to, analyze, and generally chat about from November to March.
