The rest of us, I guess, will be All In on our own.
There’s no point in denying the obvious anymore, no matter how much it may hurt. Sean Miller has left Xavier again, this time for Texas. Xavier will enter the transfer portal without much of a roster and without a coach. Matt Norlander, the best reporter in the business, has confirmed that Sean Miller has informed Xavier he will leave.
In Miller’s second time at Xavier he made the Sweet 16 once, made the tournament once, and missed once. His time was beset by the worst run of injuries in recent Xavier history. Zach Freemantle missed a previously unheard of amount of time, Jerome Hunter lost a season, and Lassina Traore never even took the floor.
That may pale in comparison to what might happen now. Ryan Conwell, Roddie Anderson, and Dailyn Swain are Miller guys, as are both incoming freshman, John Hugley and Cam Fletcher. There may be literally no one left on this roster if players go with the coach that recruited them.
Sean Miller was committed when he was here. All In was brilliant. There is no shame in riding success to better offers. That’s the American way and it’s exactly what everyone does in their professional lives, regardless of how angrily they soil their diapers on Twitter. Sean Miller didn’t lie, he didn’t snake anyone, he didn’t jump ship. He took a different offer. That’s how life works. That doesn’t make it easier when these things happen.
As of now, Xavier has not hired a replacement. Once again the program is in rebuilding mode and, once again, it feels like a massive sea change is coming. There is a guy at Charleston who looks awfully good in blue.
