So… that’s the answer to the question everyone had last night. There’s not a ton of information there, which makes sense considering the context, and we’re not here for reckless speculation. About private health matters, at least; basketball issues will still be subjected to our imaginations from time to time. Anyway, there’s relief that this isn’t the ol’ “failure to meet the standards of the program” mixed with concern for what’s ailing Trey.
From a basketball perspective, this leaves a hole as a secondary ball handler and three-point gunner. Dante Maddox, Jr. seems to be first in line to take those minutes. He is averaging 10.0/4.5/3.0 in the last 2 games and is 3-6 from deep in that time. He’s not really a point, but neither is Green. Alongside maybe Ryan Conwell, he can be a good piece to fill that role.
The fact that Xavier doesn’t have a whole lot of other options probably helps him out a bit, too.
Trey Green is the kind of live wire of a player and personality that is built for the Shootout; it’s a shame that this comes on the eve of Xavier’s crosstown rivalry. We wish Trey all the best and look forward to seeing him back on the floor soon.
