If this was a surprise to you, well…
Trey Green is leaving Xavier. The sophomore guard had not appeared in a game since December 5th against TCU. Shortly after that game it was announced that Green had some sort of never explained medical issue and he was out indefinitely. It didn’t take a genius to read the tea leaves, and so Green’s departure was hardly a surprise.
Trey never really settled into a steady role at Xavier. He had one amazing game where he scored 23. He was frequently electric. When he came into a game you knew something was going to happen. Last year that played out as too many turnovers but very good three point shooting. This season he had cut down the turnovers and was shooting the ball very well, but his time was down a bit.
There is an excellent player somewhere in Trey Green. He’ll land somewhere and score a lot. If he’s given the keys to an offense he’ll make that offense more exciting to watch and more stressful for its fans. Is he a low level high-major guard? Is he a high level mid-major guard? I suppose we’ll all find out soon enough. I think it’s safe to rule out Texas as a landing spot.
