Last night the Philadelphia Eagles embarrassed Kansas City on national television almost as bad as Kendrick Lamar embarrassed Drake during the halftime show. Almost. While for some of us baseball season never really ends – the Caribbean Series Championship game was played on Friday night – the Super Bowl being finished now means that many sports fans are turning their attention to Major League Baseball. Spring training officially begins today for the Cincinnati Reds. Pitchers and catchers are due to report today in Goodyear, Arizona. The players will take the field on Wednesday for their first official on field workout.
The pitchers and catchers will have things to themselves for a couple of days before position players are due to report to the spring training complex on Saturday, February 15th. The first full squad workout will be on Monday the 17th. Less than a week later the first spring training games will begin. On Saturday the 22nd the Reds get on the field for a game for the first time and they actually will be playing two games. At 3:05pm ET they will play Cleveland in Goodyear at the facility that the two teams share. Five minutes later another group of Reds players will be taking the field in Maryvale in a road game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Reds will have 31 pitchers in camp and another five catchers. Among those 31 pitchers, though, are three guys who we know will not be ready to begin the season. Wade Miley, who signed a minor league deal with the team, isn’t expected to be ready to pitch in games until some point in May as he recovers from Tommy John surgery. Brandon Williamson and Julian Aguiar are both going to miss the entire 2025 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery last year.
Here are the pitchers and catchers who will be in big league camp:
