Today is the day that position players have to show up in Goodyear, Arizona for Cincinnati Reds spring training. Some guy have been there for a few days already, but everyone else has to show up today.
It appears that the fellas showed up today for school pictures. Well, some of them did, anyways. Gavin Lux seems to be taking things in a bit of a different direction than some of the other guys.

While the position players must report today, the first full squad workout won’t be until Monday. The day between is usually for physicals. Much like it was with the pitchers (and even Spencer Steer, who showed up early for the position players), with all of the guys coming in today it’s likely that we will find out that someone among the 28 position players in camp that someone is dealing with something that we didn’t know about during the offseason. I guess we already know that for Steer, who is dealing with some shoulder problems that is going to limit him to the designated hitter role at least in the early part of spring training with the hopes that he can get through it and get into the field before the regular season begins.
For those of you who need the sights and sounds of baseball, here’s this to get you ready for a week from today when the Reds will take the field for two games to open up the spring training game schedule (and you can see the television broadcast schedule here that we’ve been updating daily).

Gordon Wittenmyer of the Cincinnati Enquirer wrote about Spencer Steer and why Steer is confident that his shoulder will be ready by opening day – which is six weeks away.
Pat Brennan, also of the Cincinnati Enquirer, had some quasi-updates from Terry Francona on Rhett Lowder’s elbow issue, timeline, and expectations.
Francona said Saturday that Lowder will go through a throwing progression prior to hitting the bullpen this spring. “The good part I would say is he feels really good. He’s champing at the bit,” Francona said. “So, he’ll start to pick up the ball I think in a couple days. That’ll start his throwing progression. And then I’ll keep you guys update as we go.”
