Go Reds!
The Cincinnati Reds had a day-off to lick their wounds after being swept at the hands of the Seattle Mariners. On Friday evening, they’ll welcome Mike Trout and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, California, United States of America, Eastern Hemisphere, Northern Hemisphere, Earth, Solar System, Milky Way Galaxy.
Of course, they’ll welcome said club despite missing half of what we hoped would be their Opening Day lineup. On top of the injuries to TJ Friedl and Matt McLain and the suspension of Noelvi Marte, the Reds are still playing even more shorthanded as both Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Jeimer Candelario remain sidelined with whatever illness it is that has been wrecking the locker room all week.
Oof.
As a result, the Reds are throwing a lot of lefties in their lineup tonight despite lefty Tyler Anderson being on the bump for Los Angeles. Stuart Fairchild is again hitting 3rd in the lineup, for whatever reason. Hopefully starter Nick Lodolo can make all of that mostly moot by spinning another gem, but the Reds are still going to have to figure out how to score more than a lone run for the third consecutive game when facing off against Trout, I fear.
First pitch is set for 6:40 PM ET.
