It’s the Reds. It’s the Braves. It’s baseball, or something similar.
The Cincinnati Reds were officially eliminated from the playoffs last night as the Atlanta Braves thumped them to the tune of 7-1 while mathematics conspired to leave them listless in the potential future win column.
That’s it. The 2024 Reds season is officially kaput. Still, they’re going to be asked to keep playing for another week and a half, so bear with us – it’s meaningless Cincinnati Reds baseball season once again!
Julian Aguiar sure is getting a good shot at showing the big leagues what he’s got, isn’t he? The one-time emergency call-up by the Reds now serves as one of the anchors of the patchwork rotation, even if his peripherals (1.50 K/BB, 6.32 FIP) make you cringe like Kevin McCallister at Buzz’s girlfriend. He’ll toe the rubber for the Reds again today with hopes he can eat as many innings as possible.
Atlanta, meanwhile, sends likely NL Cy Young Award winner Chris Sale to the mound, as the lefty has had quite the resurgent year since the Braves cheekily plucked him from Boston for the small price of not much. Good luck with that today, Reds!
First pitch is set for 1:10 PM ET. Lineups below.
