The Cincinnati Reds are opening up their spring training game schedule on Saturday afternoon and they are doing it with two games. They will be in Goodyear to open up against their facility mates – the Cleveland Guardians – as they do every year. But five minutes later they will also be on the road in some split squad action taking on division foes the Milwaukee Brewers. Charlie Goldsmith reported that Terry Francona has named all of the pitchers who are scheduled to go in each of the two games.
As for the manager himself, he’s going to be hitting the road. With Cleveland being the last team he managed for he decided it would be better to not make it about “Terry Francona and Cleveland” to get the spring started. Freddie Benavides will be managing the Reds in Goodyear that day.
The pitchers that will be at home in Goodyear against Cleveland:
- Hunter Greene
- Ian Gibaut
- Connor Phillips
- Taylor Rogers
- Bryan Shaw
- Lenny Torres Jr.
The Pitchers that will be on the road against Milwaukee:
- Graham Ashcraft
- Luis Mey
- Chase Petty
- Lyon Richardson
- Alex Young
- Yosver Zulueta
In spring training, particularly early on, not every pitcher is going to be getting through their set number of innings. If a guy runs into trouble they might reach their pitch count before they can complete their inning. There are always a handful of pitchers in the bullpen who aren’t “scheduled” to pitch that day during the game but will be available. Expect to see some of that happening.
The game that will be played in Goodyear will be available to watch for free. MLB.tv is offering it as the free game of the day, but it will be the Cleveland broadcast. You can also listen to the game on 700 WLW with the Reds announcers. The game against Milwaukee will not be available to watch or listen to, so following along on MLB Gameday will be your only option other than buying a ticket to the game in Arizona. As of the publishing of this article on Thursday afternoon, the television and radio broadcast schedule for Cincinnati Reds spring training games is still unavailable. We do know that all of the games will be on the radio except when there are split-squad games and on those days only one of the games will be available. We do not know which station will carry the games, though – but it will be 700 WLW or 1360 WSAI. We have the television schedule that will be available through MLB.tv updated every day and as of now there will be 15 games this spring through the service.
