Awful news continues in Reds camp.
The Cincinnati Reds have a full-blown injury crisis on their hands.
TJ Friedl is on the shelf with a busted wrist after diving for a ball in a meaningless Cactus League game, while Matt McLain’s oblique-turned-shoulder absence was exacerbated earlier today when manager David Bell mentioned that even ‘surgery’ was not off the table.
Noelvi Marte isn’t injured – he’s just suspended. But the news got worse around camp late Wednesday, as The Enquirer’s Charlie Goldsmith relayed that top infield prospect Edwin Arroyo had surgery for a torn labrum and will miss the 2024 season entirely.
Edwin Arroyo has a torn labrum and will have season ending surgery.

That’s not just depth that’s gone, that’s the ability to trade for more depth, should the team need it. On top of that, it eliminates a 2024 season that looked to be so promising for Arroyo, the switch-hitting shortstop who finished the 2023 season on a tear after a slow start.
Did I say tear? Damnit, I did not mean to do that.
More to come…
