News and Notes
Spencer Steer to begin the year on the injured list
Terry Francona announced today that Spencer Steer wasn’t going to be ready in time to begin the season. After a brief period of time of hope that he could return for Opening Day after getting a cortisone shot, they decided that it wasn’t going to work as he hadn’t had an at-bat in a game since February 27th. Mark Sheldon of Reds.com has some more details for you here.
Fangraphs isn’t too high on the Reds outfield
This weekend the crew at Fangraphs has wrapped up positional rankings for each team. The Cincinnati Reds outfield crew did not exactly stack up well to the rest of the league. The left field group ranked 25th with much of that time going to Austin Hays and Spencer Steer. In center the time goes mostly to TJ Friedl and Cincinnati comes in ranked 26th on that list. Over in right field there’s a bit more of a split with Jake Fraley, Stuart Fairchild and a handful of others – but the results didn’t change much as that group came in at 27th.
